About Us
OakVPN is a new privacy-first VPN provider built on a simple principle: speed, security, and transparency without compromise. We're building a global network of dedicated VPN servers and lightweight apps that make it easy for anyone to stay private online.
Responsibilities

- Automate server setup, scaling, and monitoring
- Implement high-availability strategies and failover systems
Security & Compliance
- Ensure "no activity logs" setup is correctly enforced across all nodes
- Harden servers against intrusion (firewalls, intrusion detection, patching)
- Collaborate with auditors to support external privacy/security reviews
Networking & Performance
- Optimize routing, peering, and bandwidth usage
- Monitor latency, throughput, and uptime across nodes
- Mitigate DDoS and abuse
Backend Development
- Build APIs for account management, device registration, and config delivery
- Integrate authentication (JWT, OAuth, token-based device binding)
- Support billing flows (Stripe, crypto) and tie them to VPN access
Monitoring & Ops
- Implement observability (metrics, logging, alerting) without compromising user privacy
- Build dashboards for internal visibility (server load, active users)
- Handle incident response, outages, and abuse escalations
Requirements
- Strong experience with Linux server administration (Ubuntu, Debian, or similar)
- Hands-on with VPN protocols (WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2)
- Proficiency in at least one automation/orchestration tool (Ansible, Terraform, or similar)
- Good understanding of networking (routing, NAT, firewalls, DNS)
- Experience with cloud & bare-metal hosting (AWS, Hetzner, OVH, DigitalOcean, etc.)
- Knowledge of monitoring stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or similar)
- Programming experience in Go, Python, or Node.js for backend APIs
- Security mindset — understands threat models, hardening, and compliance basics
Nice to Have
- Experience scaling distributed services with thousands of concurrent connections
- Familiarity with privacy tech (Tor, DNS-over-HTTPS, E2EE services)
- Prior work in SaaS / subscription platforms
- Contributions to open-source VPN or security projects
What We Offer
- Competitive salary (or contract rate)
- Fully remote, flexible schedule
- Opportunity to build a new VPN service from the ground up with ownership
- Visibility — your work directly impacts users' privacy worldwide
- Small, lean team = no bureaucracy, fast decisions
